Nyetimber Estate Groundworks Case Study
In 2020, Nyetimber – the world-renowned producer of English sparkling wine – reached out via our website for a small enabling works project. A year later, impressed with our professionalism and delivery, they invited us to tender for a much larger commercial scheme: the creation of a new industrial processing centre on their West Sussex estate.
We were appointed principal contractor for the entire groundworks package and immediately mobilised our own team, machinery and resources to begin works.
Nyetimber’s estate is iconic – and their land, operations and deadlines required a professional partner who could work in tune with the environment, deliver a complex package, and stay on programme throughout.
The Project
BVMH were responsible for delivering the full commercial groundwork preparation for a new 800sqm steel-framed industrial processing centre, which also included:
- Complete formation of building foundations
- Full drainage and site infrastructure
- External yard construction
- Hard landscaping and estate road
- Recycled aggregate production on site
Challenges & Solutions
The project started in the depth of winter, which presented classic cold weather setbacks and slowed progress at times. A significant reduced level dig was required early on, and our team adapted quickly to mitigate delays.
Midway through the programme, the client secured further planning permission, increasing the project scope by nearly a third. Despite this shift, we scaled up labour and plant on site, ensuring we stayed in line with the original 9-week timeframe.
We coordinated seamlessly with other trades on-site, keeping a tight four-man crew across the full project – all supported by our own specialist plant fleet and logistics.
Tools, Tech & Teamwork
What made this job a standout example of our capability was the full utilisation of BVMH’s in-house resources:
- Own full plant range, from mini to large excavators
- In-house tipper lorry, dumpers, and dozers
- Specialist concrete crusher on site
- Recycling of site waste into usable aggregate
- Power-floated concrete finish delivered by our own team for a clean, glass-like floor
- In-house setting-out engineer – rare in our sector, but key for precision and programme pace
